Alright, hot got me all excited, lets talk about some football!!!

I'll go ahead and say it, Georgia will not be playing for the national title. In fact, I'll put money that they'll be out of the #1 slot no later than week 6. I even think we will have at least 3 #1 teams.

As for hot's claim that if you put the BE in the SEC that even WVU would lose 4, I laugh. WVU would probably not go undefeated, but I highly doubt they lose 4, especially if they got the incredibly mediocre SEC West. UM, MSU, UA, and Arky are 4 wins right there. Plus Vandy and Kentucky! I also think that if they were to play in the SEC, that the SEC opponents would hate coming to Morgantown in the winter. Theres a difference between 50 degs (gametime temp of the Iron Bowl last year) and the high 20s. I think the SEC boys would not fare well in that cold climate.

the odds of a number one team dropping out of the spot are far greater than them not. it would be silly for me to say whether they'll be in the championship game or not--thats what they play the games for, and in all likelihood they wont. but i do think they've got a very good team lined up.

4 wins! :homerun

msu, ua, and arkansas all look a little different when the big games of the year are against georgia, lsu, and florida rather than pittsburgh and connecticut.

cinci is no better than miss state, and connecticut is normally a joke, and even now they are on the bottom tier of the SEC.

you also seem to forget that west-east matchups are a must, and teams usually play the upper tier of each conference. i.e. auburn plays georgia and alternates fla/ten--the 3 best teams in the east.

ill even take our two favorite teams and compare schedules.

take auburn's 5 biggest games and compare them to wvu's 5 biggest games--not including each other.

auburn
georgia
florida
tennessee
lsu
alabama

west virginia
usf
louisville
pitt
cinci
uconn/rutgers?

so yes, i think factoring in injuries and wear and tear from playing top 15 opponents 5 times a season and not having nova, marshall, syracuse, east carolina, etc as simple scrimmages..along with playing those same top 15 teams mixed with in all likeliehood at least one upset equals at least 3, more than likely 4 losses. after all, they lost 2 games last year against a borderline top 25 team and unranked rival(not to say pitt didnt have a good team.)

like i said, i think west virginia's got a very good team, but teams like ohio state, oklahoma, etc. have absolutely zero competition, and they get weeks upon weeks to prepare for one or two real games a season.

You're right. Because playing Georgia Southern and Central Michigan (Georgia's first two games of the year) is so much more impressive. AS for "syracuse" who is an in-conference foe, I guess playing Vanderbilt and Kentucky is so much better? >.< Or your favorite team, playing Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, Vandy, and Tennessee-Martin is a better comparison?

That fact is that EVERY team plays weak teams both out of conference and in-conference.

"you also seem to forget that west-east matchups are a must, and teams usually play the upper tier of each conference. i.e. auburn plays georgia and alternates fla/ten--the 3 best teams in the east."

I didn't forget them, considering I noted both Vandy and Kentucky. Auburn has Georgia, Vandy and Tennessee. Tennessee, from what I've seen every year aren't as good as they get made out to be.

As for your top 5 games, Auburn isn't playing Florida this year. Id say the WVU/Auburn matchup is going to be a big game for both teams this year. And, keep in mind all of the southern teams have to come up to Morgantown for cold weather games, which often hinder warm weather teams a great deal.

it is when georgia's 4 biggest games arent against teams pushing to get into the top 25.

kentucky went 8-5 last year and vanderbilt has choked themselves out of bowls the last 2 years. sure, they aren't powerhouses, but "syracuse"(i guess you put it in quotations for effect?) won all of 2 games last year.

once again, it would be different if auburn were playing these opponents every week and getting all hyped up for that one top 25 team they're destined to play all year.

well duh. ;)

that isnt my point at all. of course every team is going to play weak opponents. and some play more than others. and some play way more than others. and still others play less strong "strong" opponents. and so on and so forth. im not trying to argue that auburn or georgia isnt playing any weak teams this year. the point in question is that their level of competition is far greater than that of WVU and USF, etc.

except auburn, who is in the west, doesnt play kentucky and georgia, who does, is in the east.

again, they rotate ten. with florida, and GA, TN, and FLA are the 3 strongest teams in the east. i'm not just talking this year, im talking big picture. tennessee won 10 games last year--more than both USF and UCONN.

my mistake. didnt mean to put them in there.

it works both ways. you can't have your cake and eat it too. if the cold weather hinders SEC teams during home games, the 20 degree heat difference when WVU comes down south will hinder them as well.

ACtually, you can. Morgantown practices is the same heat and humidity that the SEC teams play in. And by the time in-conference games start, the weather has cooled. Cold weather teams aren't nearly as affected by the weather as warm weather ones are. Sure if WVU had to play games against Auburn, UGA, UF, UT, LSU in June, the h/h would factor in greatly. But come September/October/November, its less of a factor.

lol. so you've moved from actually disputing quality of teams and are attempting to give one team out of the big east a weather advantage (an outside factor, mind you) in my imaginary scenario--a scenario that was built to illustrate quality of teams.

if you really find it necessary to have the weather on your side then i've made my point.

Nope. I was just in a rush this morning having to go out to the field. Plus I am really lazy.

If thats the case then WVU's 4 biggest games are: USF (top 25), Rutgers (29th), Pittsburgh (31st). We lost Maryland this year which sucks because thats usually a good game. But 1 team in the top 25 and two pushing to be in the top 25. So its the same. And the Big East has seen teams come from no where to become legitimate top 25 teams by years end.

Im not sure I agree. Vandy is good for one big win a year. But going 4-8 in 2006 while dropping 4 of their last 5 with the only win coming against Duke doesn't make them better competition.

So now you're able to predict the entire football season rankings? Can I have some lottery numbers too?

Yes I'm aware of who the annual powers are in the SEC. UT won 10 games, out of 14. UConn won 9, out of 13. Both were 4 loss teams. If we're going off straight wins, Cincy had 10 wins, USF had 9, UConn had 9, Rutgers had 8.

As addressed before, cold weather affects warm weather teams more than warm weather affects cold weather teams. And pointing out that the southern boys would have to come up to Morgantown and play when its cold is a legit fact. Home fields and weather conditions are a huge part of football, especially college football.
