Heck, he even helped himself at the plate with an RBI Double. For him to get this 1st win, I think this will help his confidence. Way to go Hammy. BN should be thrilled. LOL. Rewatching the game, since I fell asleep during the last half of it. There was some nice defensive plays by Casey that saved a couple of runs in the 5th. In the top of 5th, two of the doubles were hit to the base of the wall. KJ's was to the deepest part of the AT&T Park, 421 feet, any other park, that is gone. Even Hammy's double would have gone. These guys helped Hammy get this win. Good defensive and run support were the key to this win, now we need to do it again. Chuck James needs to take what Hammy did and apply it. Honestly if Hampton can stay healthy for the rest of the season, I say ATL should decline his option but then sign him to like a 1 or 2 year deal like 4 or 5 mil (at most)per year. Or at least invite him 2 spring training and see how he does. So far this year he has been pretty good considering he hasnt pitched at this level in 3 years. 1-0 6.75 ERA (most of which came in his first start [4 IP 6 ER] where he might have had low confidence thinking what will happen now and butterflies and the lack of pitching over the last 3 years). He is just like another #8 or even #7 hitter in our lineup. The deal is pretty low risk with a really high reward i think. |

I have to agree with you bravesfan1018 and maybe even add some incentives in the contract to raise the value. With Smoltz and Huddy gone for most of the season next year, we can go out and get a top notch starter like CC Sabathia. We got Jurrjens but we need someone with a bulldog mentality and Hammy has it. Just maybe he can teach Chuckie a 3rd pitch and how to land properly and not with a stiff front leg. |

Wow I am kinda surprised that i got sumbody to agree with me about that. Yes we all hate Hampton when he is sitting earning $15M the easy way but when he pitches even now he shows y he got that contract. |

Let's wait and see how he pitches the rest of the season. I want to see some solid performances against something other than that thing the Giants call a lineup. If he pitches well, then maybe...I would love to have him back and perform at the level he used to....but until he can prove he is going to stay healthy... |

hampton has never been worth 15 million dollars in his career. he finally got on the field. lets not crown him cy young yet.. he's a good pitcher when he's healthy, but id give him nothing more than a sub 5 mil for 1y deal (or a heavily incentive laden 2 year deal) even if he stays healthy the rest of the year.
