Trade Rumors Involving Other Teams

With the trading deadline exactly 3 weeks away, I thought I would do alittle bit of digging to see what the rumor mill was saying about players who might be on the "hot seat" to be traded.

The 1st one I came across that is being rumored and several teams are pursuing him is Brian Fuentes of the Rockies. The Mets are one of the teams who are interested in him, which makes me wonder what they will do with good ole Billy "Shoot off at the mouth" Wagner. Would be a nice 1-2 punch out of their bullpen but I think their biggest need is shoring up that outfield with Church and Alou out injured and no set time table for their return, I think they need help there, not the bullpen. Maybe Whitekean can add something to this.

The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that the Blue Jays have begun scouting the Phillies' and Dodgers' minor league teams in preparation for a potential A.J. Burnett trade.

Burnett is hurting his trade value by pitching poorly of late, but remains one of the better starters rumored to be on the market. According to the newspaper, the Blue Jays seem more likely to deal with the Phillies and "covet" outfield prospect Greg Golson, along with being interested in Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson, Jason Donald and Brad Harman.

I wonder if that is going to make Brett Myers expendable if the Phillies acquire Burnett. Burnett does have the opt out option in his contract after the season.

Going to be an interesting 3 weeks.

Just heard this on Outside The Line on Espn, The Mariners want to trade Erik Bedard but he is on DL which is making it hard to do. Hmmm....do we want to go there? The Mariners are not going to get back what they gave away to get him.

Fuentes would be nice...but we need an OF. Mets got word today that Moises Alou is done for the year (torn hamstring). Not unexpected, but hopefully this finally gives Minaya the kick in the butt he needed to go out and get an OF (and Pray Church is ok...as he is still not right since that series with you guys back in May). Anyway, Bullpen and OF are the two big needs for the mets as I see them.

Personally I'd love to see Philly go out and spend all their chips on Bedard. That guy, in that city? Man, that would be funny :)

I saw that too, Whitekean. I wonder if Alou is going to retire after this latest setback. Does anyone truly know what is causing the problems with Church?

Minaya has been laying low since the Randolph firing but if the Mets are going to make a run, these two going down is probably what Minaya needs to go out and get that much needed OF to help Beltran out there. Fuentes would be nice but do the Mets have the prospects to make the trade with the Rockies after giving the Twins 4 top prospects in the off season for Santana. That would be the next question that needs to be asked. Minaya might just have to part with someone on the roster to get him. That might just not make you Mets fans happy if that happened.

These names are on the hot list to be traded, according to FoxSports.com.

SS Jack Wilson-Pirates. Dodgers might be interested in him considering they have lost Furcal and they have several guys playing SS now.
RP Brian Fuentes-Rockies.
OF Xavier Nady-Pirates. Not in the Pirates' long term future and is a FA at the end of the season.
OF/DH Milton "Hot Head" Bradley. Isn't in the Rangers long term plans but is a switch hitter who can produce runs for a team.
RHP Greg "Mad Dog" Maddux. He has veto power plus he doesn't want to leave the West Coast. Cubs and Cards might two teams interested in him.
3B Adrian Beltre. He can have an effect on a line up, one of the few Mariners left.
LHP Randy Wolf. Wouldn't touch him honestly. Has been injury prone though out his career. Battles arm fatigue usually in the 2nd half. Should have a sign over him, Fagile, Buyer Beware.
OF Matt Holliday. What the Rockies want for him in a trade is 2 players. The question to be asked is, minor league(Class A to Double A) or do they have to be major league ready prospects.
LHP Erik Bedard. Bad Move by Seattle. Shoulder problems started once he got up in the cold weather of Seattle. Two trips to the DL already. Seattle doesn't want him and they realize they won't get what they got for him. Another bad trade by the former GM Bavasi.
OF Jason Bay. It looks as if Pittsburgh is going to start over and it will be with out Jason Bay but the price to get him is going to be steep. Wonder what Pittsburgh wants for him.

Then you have Players that can be yours for the taken and the price is just right. Then you have a list of players that no matter what you offer their teams, it will be "NO DEAL."

Church has just been having headaches and migranes lately...they say its not related, but he's on the DL again, so who knows. Problem is Willie and Omar allowed Church to rush back last time since we couldn't hit our way out of a paper bag for much of May and June and they really needed him. That and letting him flying CROSS COUNTRY really screwed church up and set him back big time (IMO). Geniuses all, truly.

As for the trade market....Mets have some prospects, but the question is will they deal them to get Holliday? Answer is most likely NOT, IMO. Rocks are gonna want Fernando Martinez (who the twins let us keep somehow) and they may well want Wilmer Flores too. In either case, I don't want to move either of them. That leaves you the Nick Evanses, and John Niese's and Mike Carp's of the world (B-prospects at best). That will NOT get you Holliday one would think. In all likelihood though, it will be good enough to get someone...no idea who though. jp ricciardi reportedly turned down Lincecum for Rios, so that's out. Pirates want 2 A-prospects for Nady (HA!), and Adam Dunn...REALLY can't play the OF and I've never been a fan of his. Barry Bonds...eww, not getting into that sideshow if I can help it.

Wherever he turns, if he thinks the Mets have a chance at contending, Minaya is gonna have to swallow hard and do it though...Fernando Tatis has been great but there's no way you can expect him to keep up his torrid pace.

I just want to say again how nice it is to have a good non-Braves fan around these forums. Whitekean, your posts are always very informative and intelligent, and never overly boastful or disrespectful. I like that. We could really use a few more posters like you around here. You almost make me want to like the Mets. ;)

Anyway, don't mean to derail the thread. Carry on!

I second that 2Brave. It is very nice to have someone who adds another perspective to our board, does it in such a manner that we can enjoy the conversation. Whitekean, you are probably one of the nicer Met fans I have met and very knowledgeable. Very good to have you bring what you think on the topics.

Thanks guys...I try ;) There are a lot of good mets fans out there. Problem is, like most fan bases, there are going to be the bad seeds. Unfortunately, when you add in a city with so many people...you're going to get some guys who are...as George Carlin would say...are working on a bit of a lean mixture ;)

Anyway, it's nice to have an opposition board I can post on and talk baseball. You won't find that too often (certainly not for a mets fan ;)) So thanks for that!
