Francoeur to be sent down?

It had been discussed much of this week about sending Jeff down to help straighten out what ever seems to be his problem. This shouldn't have been a real shock to him. But to think he shouldn't have been sent down, sorry but it came across as if he was above been sent down.

A number of other big leaguers have been sent down to the minors to make adjustments to their mechanics like Dontrelle Willis and Brett Myers. Heck Willis went to Single A to fix his problems.

I wasn't shocked at all. I think it will be good for Jeff to go down, work on his swing away from everyone and with someone who knows his swing, his old hitting coach and current coach Phillip Wellman. This might just turn him around.

I'd like them to have called Brandon Jones back up.

I am scratching my head on why Jason Perry was called up other than he is having a "nice" season. Maybe the Braves think he can provide that "magic" spark that other guys have done in the past.

Right now we need a bon fire to get this team going.

This team needs to get their collective heads out of their collective asses and start playing ball. Plain and simple. We give up early runs then this team has to fight back.

We can lay the blame at Frenchy if we want but the blame lays at every one's feet.

If Frenchy returns, gets on fire, this demotion will have been the best for him and the team. Let's hope that is what will happen for him and the team.

The reason why Brandon Jones wasn't called up, since he was recently sent down, he has to be down for 10 days before he can be recalled by the Braves.

It seems Jeff is getting some major support from his teammates and it seems the Braves gave him the choice as to where he wanted to go, Double or Triple A. This is what I got from Shank's site.

In his 1st AB tonight, he hit a homer only to have it over turned by the umpire who was out of position to make the call, Jeff ended walking. Wellman got tossed for arguing the call. Good to read that Jeff went down there and tried to produce immediately. Matt Diaz is down there and was on base when he hit the "homer" that was taken away.

This might be a good thing for Jeff. Frank Wren said he will be down a min. of 10 days no more than 20 days. I am pulling for Jeff to get this straightened out.

The way Jeff has handled this entire situation makes me hope he stays down the rest of the season. What an arrogant ass. The team showed him loyalty by offering him a 6 year deal and he rejected it. They aren't required to give him notice that he's being optioned down. He single handedly killed this team. he needs to STFU and go play.

Someone needed to remind him there is no "I" in team. Apparently he hadn't read the paper about how there was talk of sending him down.

GM Frank Wren didn't owe him any advance warning to sending his whining ass down. When your "hometown" team offers you a 6 yr deal like they gave your best friend and you say no, you think you deserve more, you just put more pressure on yourself to prove you deserve more money.

He gripped about being given another one year deal this past off season. Whose fault is that? His and his alone.

Stop the whining and play the game. Time for Dad to have a talk with son.

Well Jeff is doing really well in AA. He went 2-4 and is smoking the ball. Should we bring him back up?

He may be smoking the ball now but I think that he should be down there a lil bit longer before he comes back. Just a couple of games does not mean anything right now. He needs to be consistent before coming back.

Braves recall Francoeur from minor leagues

Outfielder will rejoin team tonight in Los Angeles

By CARROLL ROGERS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 07/07/08

Jeff Francoeur's stint in the minor leagues lasted all of three days. The Braves have called their right fielder back up, and he will be joining the team in Los Angeles tonight.

"He got called back up," his agent Molly Fletcher said midday Monday, having spoken to Francoeur by phone.

Francoeur left Atlanta on Friday with a .234 batting average and the weight of the world on his shoulders, upset that he was being sent down after three years in the major leagues. He will return having hit .538 (7-for-13) in three games for AA Mississippi, with a triple and two RBIs.

It was originally planned that Francoeur would stay in AA Mississippi for a minimum of 10 days until after the All-Star break but with the rash of injuries that hit the Braves over the weekend - the Braves called him back up.

A player can return within 10 days from the minor leagues if he's replacing an injured player on the roster. One of the three players the Braves disabled on Sunday night - along with pitcher Jeff Bennett and Manny Acosta - was utlity man Omar Infante.

This move honestly does surprise me. I mean yes a swing can bee fixed in 72 hours and chances are when it got out that he could be going down, the minor league hitting coaches got tapes of Francoeur this year and last year and compared them. Wellman does know the ins and outs of Frenchy's swing. Chances are, he saw something and as soon as Frenchy went down Wellman knew what was wrong and how to correct it.
